What? A mountain bike???
No, I can’t read your mind and I didn’t hear you when you uttered the question, but I did anticipate the response.
Today, high end mountain bikes and road bikes can easily sell brand new for $9-12k! This particular specimen only came in at an MSRP of $7,460. Don’t worry, I think those prices are crazy too, but lucky for me other people don’t. This bike is essentially built from carbon fiber: frame, fork, wheels, handlebars.
I stumbled across this bike while browsing Craigslist. I’ve always been a fan of Cannondale and was a little dumbfounded to have actually found this bike posted for sale as they weren’t “officially” released yet? Turns out that a local rider had a friend who was a Cannondale rep. The rep had been using the bike as a demo and sold it when he was done. This local rider picked it up when it became available because he thought one of his buddies would want it; fortunately for me his buddy didn’t actually want it.
I picked up the bike $3,400 and rode it for a while. I reposted it on Craigslist, Mtbr and Pinkbike for $5,600. Within a couple months a guy contacted me through Mtbr and agreed to buy it. One PayPal transfer later, he had a new bike and I had some money back in my pocket to reinvest into the next toy.
Deal done, onto the next one.
